A Dunne Posted Tuesday at 04:52 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:52 PM (edited) First post! I'm looking for someone to take a gander at this cert. Google Translate gives me the following result, but I need someone to double-check it as I need a translation for customs. Is the field marked "inscription" filled with the year? MauroP Posted Tuesday at 10:17 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 10:17 PM Hi Adrian, welcome in NMB. I suppose you already know that document is a tōrokusho and is not intended to be exported from Japan with the blade (at least if the Japanese law is respected). Anyway the paper relates to a katana, nagasa (lenght) 63.4 cm, and the document was issued in Reiwa 6 (2024), november 13. 1 Quote
A Dunne Posted Wednesday at 12:39 AM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 12:39 AM Thanks for the reply. Japanese law very much hasn't been respected. It was included with a sword I bought at auction from Ohio! I needed a translation for customs since it shipped with the sword. Katanas are pretty tightly controlled here in Ireland, so I have to prove this one isn't a replica. I've imported multiple European swords and even a Type 32, but I guess it didn't look Japanese enough, so no alarm bells went off. The part that Google translated as "Delivered on January 3 2013" What is that in reference to? It's the dates they'll be most concerned with. Quote

The translation is totally wrong. 令和6年11月13日交付 – Issued on Reiwa 6th year (2024) 11th month 13th day. It is the date when the registration paper was issued. 2 Quote
Brian Posted Wednesday at 06:09 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:09 AM The Japanese won't issue (legally) a torokusho for a sword that isn't genuine and traditionally made. By the fact that it has one, that already gives you the indemnity you need for customs. 2 Quote
