Stephen Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 always like moon tsuba, need closer up mei for me think i see Shigemitsu? Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 大森奈良重光 Omori Nara Shigemitsu. This artist is one that is copied a lot as he is a very important artist and the work needs to be assessed carefully as well as the signature. The 'shige' kanji looks almost like 薫 John Quote
Ford Hallam Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 perfectly honest tsuba in my opinion but the mei strikes me as being "uncertain" Like Steven I'd like to see a clear close up regards, fh Quote
Tsugio Kawakami Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Just a question of curiosity, but what is that in the kogai hitsuana? Quote
jason_mazzy Posted April 24, 2010 Author Report Posted April 24, 2010 I will try to get some good shots with a friends camera. real closeup on the mei. Then if anyone thinks it is worth having autheticated we can go from there. Quote

jason_mazzy Posted May 3, 2010 Author Report Posted May 3, 2010 When you click the picture link you can go to all sizes and make the photo quite large as to get a good look at mei. P.S. Anyone who wants the raw pictures 2-5mb so they can look at em, or post them better than me please let me know. Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 The mei on this tsuba is odd for the examples of the Shigemitsu available. There are missing kanji for the Omori Nara smith mentioned above and to tell the truth it doesn't look like this schools work. There was a Shoami Shigemitsu (Kato) 加藤, but, although this seems more Shoami type work, not up to his high quality either, that still leaves the 良, Ryo, kanji as misplaced. I can't identify by what references I have. John Quote
jason_mazzy Posted May 7, 2010 Author Report Posted May 7, 2010 What can I do to aid in this translation or investigation? Would love to pin this one down to an era and school. Quote
