Is this an earlier version or something else

One of the title pages shows a date of 1938, for what it's worth. Not sure if that's early or not. My copies are 1960's reprints.

The person who is behind this - no idea who it is - has copied (stolen) my text from my website to describe the book. Wonder what else he is using without permission. Lie down with dogs; get up with fleas.

I am sorry and did not know this Grey.  If you want to contact Brian and ask him to delete this thread I am not going to say a word.  I had no idea this was ‘stolen’ and only wanted to ask what this was.

Nothing to be sorry about Mark; it's the guy who runs the site I have a beef with. Do you think the Fujishiro family was consulted before their book was put online?

The Internet Archive has been around since the 90s as an online archive for various texts. Whoever uploaded this book did so with Grey's description and photocopies. You can request the site remove non-compliant material requesting a takedown of copyrighted material. IDK who the user shinsengumi-archives is but they uploaded the book 4 years ago.

The person who posted this has just screen grabbed the book from the National Diet Library's digital platform... https://dl.ndl.go.jp/pid/1116200

The copyright law is 70 years after publication for corporate-authored works - therefore the NDL was able to digitise the book as it was printed in 1938 - the use of the NDL images and Grey's words however is where this guy falls over.

Fact is there are pirated copies of many books online, we just try not to mention or discuss it. But I am sure many if not most collectors know there are illegitimate electronic versions of everything from Connoisseurs, to Haynes to Hawley. Am sure Markus battles with it too. It's the nature of the internet. But we try stick to copyright here, and the download above falls within that as Brett said. Grey, sorry they used your description.
