Regarding the shipping costs, I was worried, but I think they're reasonable. I sometimes pay more for shipping in France. €42 for the tsuba. Once with Drouot and their partner, it was €58, so it seems quite reasonable overall.

@MauroP Indeed, there were some incredible sizes; I love large tsuba, and it was an amazing opportunity to get it at such a good price. Unfortunately, there were others; I don't regret it, but one of my katanas would have liked to have it in its assembly.

Late to this one but in regard to the Goto daisho cticised earlier I noticed this one, for sale on your well known online platform.  There is either a happily deluded buyer out there or someone is going to get agitated!

All the best.

It is most copied tsuba I saw :] that’s why sekigane is right away warning. Believe Me I stopped saving those knock-offs, simply way to much of them

Unfortunately, I don't have the book Gai Sō Shi – Study Collection of Japanese Sword Fittings by Haynes, but I would be curious to know how the supposed Gotō Teijō daishō is presented there.

I have a signed copy of that book and that tsuba set is number 89 of the book. In the book it stills looks like a fake to me. Proof positive that no one is immune to the occasional fake as a collector. I have had my fake over the years.

I still haven't received my tsuba which seems too long for me

I've emailed a week ago but no reply and tried again today

No tracking number

Has anyone else outside the EU received their item?

Pickup date was 5 weeks ago so I would put that in the overdue category. You should have received at least the tracking number. Try calling.

Posted

At the beginning of April, I was told to wait between 4 and 6 weeks before it was shipped.

I remain patient, even though it ultimately falls under the jurisdiction of the Italian administration.

On April 20, after sending an inquiry, I got the following reply:

"We are waiting for export permits from the Ministry of Culture, which is a necessary document for approval by customs to export your item.

The approval requires from 4 to 6 weeks.

Once obtained, we will be ready to ship the item and will send you a message with the tracking number.

Thank you for waiting,
regards"

The waiting continues. 🤷

Good Morning.

Indeed, I contacted them on Monday re my tsuba and also received an answer stating that they are waiting for export licenses for shipping of my lot. As I hail from Germany and they are located in italy, this does not make sense at all (both countries being located in the EU). After pointing this out, they then said that tsuba are obvioulsy "parts of weapons - and by extension weapon parts" and thus export  to Germany "will be challenging". We shall see...

Best,

Hi, I phoned Czerny’s, and they explained that shipping antique items abroad from Italy requires permission from the Ministry of Culture, regardless of whether the destination is inside or outside the European Community. So don’t worry, it’s just the Italian bureaucracy...

Hello, I received a response this morning from Czerny's International department.

Mr. .........,  the Ministry of Culture is currently experiencing significant technical problems with its system. The export permit should be available next week. The wait is long, at least six weeks, possibly several months.

Tomorrow will be too soon but at least it is acknowledged

Your shipment from IT0371 Mg Srl Czerny is on the way.

Excellent news!!!

I haven't received anything yet, so I think it will arrive in the next few days.

With a bit of luck, I'll get the book before the tsuba 🤔.

I received my tsuba a few minutes ago as stated:

Scheduled delivery date - Wednesday, 13/05/2026. Updated yesterday to 14/05/26

Very well packed with the papers and box

The tsuba was wrapped in tissue inside the box with a pillow (normally a no no) but in this case there was no damage

8 pages (what a pain for the auction house) with an interesting comment:

This artworks are exempt from Reciprocal Tariffs' under chapter 99 Secondary Classification 9903.01.32, as informational materials.

These goods are ART antiques and more than 100 years old.

HS code: 9705100090

I was surprised that I didn't have to pay import duty

A very nice Kanayama tsuba, good condition with a lovely patina, with papers, just so pleased

I wish the best to other buyers from this auction and I hope you are as happy as me with your purchase

So happy for you!

I still haven't received an email telling me it's on its way. I'm hoping for next week 🤞🤞.
You're lucky to be able to observe your Tsuba.

Awesome!  That's great news. Sounds like you will be keeping this one for a while:)  Congratulations.

Hoping for update soon.

I thought they weren't shipping to the states

I'm currently residing in Middle East. No problem shipping here, but that export permit process was terribly slow.
