Hello:

I just finished reading a monograph published by Daniel (Kensho) Furuya in 1987. It was a great intro to horimono. The introduction states that this is one of a series of monographs that will eventually form a book. I Googled Daniel and found that he died in 2007. Does anyone know of other publications by Daniel Furuya? Did he publish the book he wrote about?

Barry,

Daniel (aka; Kensho) Furuya did publish a book called "Kodo Ancient Ways: Lessons in the Spiritual Life of the Warrior/Martial Artist", but it focused mainly on Aikido and not specifically on swords. I don't recall any other books by him. The So. Cal. club may have published some articles by him. He was quite fond of Yagyu tsuba from what I remember.

Furuya sensei, was a member of this board for a short while, in a previous incarnation. Sadly, he left after a relatively short time, due to people questioning his opinion, as if he was unlearned, rather than listening to his insight. Another book by him was, Autumn Lightning: The Education of an American Samurai by Dave Lowry and Daniel Furuya. Really, in this book he did the foreword. John

I was hoping to find more monographs by him as I learned from the one on horimono and hoped to learn more. I was not looking for a book on Aikido but thanks for the information.

Barry, et al:

Reverend Fuyura also published a pamphlet on an Exibition of swords from the Shitahara School that was held in December of 1995 in Los Angeles. it contains about 25 oshigata of swords and a couple of Jumanji-yari.
