Foletta Posted Wednesday at 02:30 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:30 AM Could someone identify this mon please. Thanks Geoff Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted Wednesday at 02:37 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:37 AM Well, we know what it is but I haven't been able to find an exact match just yet. (It is possible that it was created after the Edo period was over, missing out on being listed.) It is three 'dark' crossed 'uchiwa' or 'gunbai' fans, so in Japanese it has to be something like 三つ団扇 三つ違い陰軍配 Mitsu uchiwa or mitsu chigai kage gunbai, etc. Also look for 唐団扇, ‘China fan’ motif. Foletta Posted Wednesday at 02:57 AM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 02:57 AM It is on a sword Saya that Major General K Omoto surrendered in China. If that helps. Thanks 1 2 1 Quote

Robert S Posted Wednesday at 03:45 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:45 AM Super curious to see the sword itself! That's a really interesting piece of history and provenance! 1 Quote
Robert S Posted Wednesday at 04:02 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:02 AM I wonder if the sword you have is in this photo. I believe these are the Japanese officers surrendering at Tientsin. General Worton had a rather interesting meeting with Chou En Lai during this period. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted Wednesday at 05:58 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:58 AM There was a Maj. General Omoto Kimio - 尾本喜三雄, however he is listed as being stationed in Sumatra by wars end. Looks like some interesting provenance, thanks for sharing Geoff. 2 Quote
