French nihonto Posted October 18 Report Posted October 18 (edited) Very beautiful blade, but I don't understand why it has to be repolished. The new polishing is beautiful, there's no doubt about it, but the old polishing was already very nice. If we all polish the blades we buy, in 100 years there will be no more nihonto in private hands. I see this more and more often, which worries me a little. and also a little thing, you put the dimensions with the old polishing, with the new polishing, the moto kasane and saki kasane will be thinner now. klee Posted October 18 Author Report Posted October 18 Hi Maxime The polish was a shiage togi which is just the finishing stage. ( jizuya / hadori/ nugui ) This removes any superficial micro scratches and fixes any discoloration and the pervious hadori which was very thick and obstructive. ( common in many blades in hadori kesho finish nowdays ) The blade weighs the same both before and after down to 1000th of a gram. It would take an insane amount of shiage togi before any change could be measured let alone alter the motokasane/sakikasane 1 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted October 20 Report Posted October 20 Personal thoughts are just that. But i think is very good piece for early kiyomitsu. Iv had about 5 over the years. Just sold a dated kiyomitsu 1528 ubu that had a very nice sakizori had a true katateuchi. But this is far superior in its condition and forging. Its good buy, plenty to look at and study. Quote
