cluckdaddy76 Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 I have noticed that I have a Tenpo tsuba in my collection that I would like get some feedback on due to the size, both diameter and weight. Looking at the picture it appears to be a typical Tenpo that looks like it was set at least twice by looking at the sekigane. I have been looking to find a similar one but have not had any luck. This one is massive, reaching just under 110 mm at its widest point and weighing in on my scale at 273 grams. My thoughts were maybe this was on a naginata? If not , the blade it was mounted on must have been gigantic too, just for the balance? I have not come across many tsuba this large and was looking for more information if anyone can comment. Spartancrest Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Jason have you checked this PDF? It is a great source of information on Tempo. 2 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Could be either a Nodachi / Odachi? Also possible to be a Temple offering but less likely as it has been mounted. Regardless a very nice piece! 2 Quote

Dale, I have seen and read some of this somewhere else, but not in this much depth. Thanks for sharing, I think I can narrow mine down to a more specific Tempo lineage. 1 1 Quote
lonely panet Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 I think that was once in my collection. Large katana or tachi Quote
ROKUJURO Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 TENBO TSUBA can be a bit larger than other traditions. This is a comparatively tiny one at 94 x 91 mm: 2 Quote
