When Necessary Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 Please discard this if there's something similar already on the forum but this is a handy little calculator for converting traditional Japanese measurements to cm and inches. Shaku convertor 3 1 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 Very useful Dee. Thank you. I think I have run across that site many moons ago, but nice to rediscover it. I have a useful old tape measure showing inches, centimeters and shaku measurements on it. As a rule of thumb, one shaku is ten sun, and at roughly the same mark is one foot, i.e. twelve inches, which also coincides with 30 centimeters. A convenient convergence of three measuring systems within about half a centimeter. 4 Quote
When Necessary Posted September 15 Author Report Posted September 15 Thank you, Piers. I'm reasonably familiar with the ratios of the different measuring systems but I thought this might aid any newbie, fresh into the hobby. 1 1 1 Quote
Lewis B Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 Thats the one I've been using. Probably the best one I've found online. 2 Quote
Brano Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 The conversion can be done very easily using a calculator that every mobile phone has today Let's say blade 2 shaku 4 sun 7 bun use 30.3 x 247 and in the result you will move the decimal point by two places 2 1 1 Quote
When Necessary Posted September 15 Author Report Posted September 15 I'm lousy at math Brano - I just personally find this a simpler method. 1 Quote

When Necessary Posted September 15 Author Report Posted September 15 I'm also awful with computers and calculators. 😁 1 Quote

I built a quick excel calculator using that math. Nerd, I know 1 Quote
