Mushin Posted July 29 Report Posted July 29 Welcome to the world of Soden-Bizen, wide yakiba. Looks like textbook work to me. Didn't take a deep dive but what I saw looked all right. Kencho's work was often confused with his teacher Chogi, and I think in one case was even attributed to Masamune. Nice blade. You have good taste. Go for it! Quote

Mushin Posted July 29 Report Posted July 29 If I recall correctly -- and I have to look it up -- one of the last big reveals of Darcy before he died was a sword that was a Masamune meito that was later papered to Kencho. Again, I need to check as I don't trust my memory like I used to, I recall he wrote an article about it. Let me check and see if I can find it and I will link to it here. And if I am wrong, I will gladly provide you with the contacts for both my solicitor and mental health care provider! 4 Quote
Mushin Posted July 29 Report Posted July 29 Yes, just confirmed it was the Hoshizukiyo Masamune, supposedly worn by Takeda Shingen at one of the Kawanakajima funfests he had with Uesgi Kenshin. Went Juyo before Darcy passed away attributed to Kencho. Looking for permission to post the article here. 1 1 Quote

nulldevice Posted July 30 Report Posted July 30 1 hour ago, ROKUJURO said: So KENCHO is KANENAGA? Yup. Kenchō (Kanenaga) and Chōgi (Nagayoshi) use their sino-Japanese readings but depending on the translation, you'll often see both names appearing on various websites or translations of their work. As for OP, no re-temper on this blade, it looks like a pretty classic o-suriage soden-bizen work from this school with an abundance of hataraki and a very wide hamon. You'll see many katana with an o-kissaki or ones such as this with an extended chu-kissaki. Its also a reference sword as stated in the ad in the Osaka Meito Zufu and comes with a nice looking tachi koshirae. Not a bad overall package. Quote

PNSSHOGUN Posted July 30 Report Posted July 30 Often come back to this Kencho and think if you could have just one fine sword for a collection, this sword has it all. https://web.archive.org/web/20220118192230/https://tetsugendo.com/swords/C_115_Kanenaga_Katsuhira.html 2 3 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted July 30 Report Posted July 30 Yes for the blade! The KOSHIRAE may be high-end but is not to my taste. 3 Quote

R_P Posted July 31 Report Posted July 31 The Koshirae on the aoi art listing used to belong to a Naoe Shizu and now to this sword. 1 1 Quote
