uwe Posted Thursday at 05:51 AM Report Posted Thursday at 05:51 AM Agreed with John! Nimai -dō, leather or leather covered. Flashy, but with some damages…one, unfortunately, not so nice. Let’s see when it has arrived… 1 Quote
shakudo Posted Friday at 03:43 AM Author Report Posted Friday at 03:43 AM Hi John, Dou is metal covered with either leather or laquer or both. Uwe, can you elaborate on the unfortunate feature? Damage or a repair? Also roughly early 1800's? Are there any areas or sections I can photograph that would help? Many thanks for taking the time to enlighten me, much appreciated. Regards Mike. 1 Quote
uwe Posted Friday at 05:40 AM Report Posted Friday at 05:40 AM Mike, the dō is made quite elaborately and bears nice features, like the mentioned leather cover (kawa-tsutsumi) or the (bear) fur trimming on the pendant sections of the hip protector (gessan), called ue-kuma-ge, besides others…. However, the minor damages of the lacing, cords and toggles aside, my main concern is the obviously broken upper back plate (oshitsuke no ita). The pictures are small and blurry, so let’s wait for better shots (front, sides, back, top, bottom and a view inside). Later some close ups of certain areas… 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted Friday at 05:50 AM Report Posted Friday at 05:50 AM Agreed, but why do dealers use such fuzzy photos? Quote
