Hephaestus Posted April 5, 2025 Report Posted April 5, 2025 Hi my brother purchased this sword from a customer who had very little information about it. I tried using google to translate its markings to no avail if anyone has the ability to translate them, I would appreciate it very much also the serial number on the sword is 2 does that make it more desirable? Grey Doffin Posted April 5, 2025 Report Posted April 5, 2025 Smith is Kanenao and date is Showa 16 year 2 month day (a day in February of 1941) Grey 3 1 Quote
Brian Posted April 5, 2025 Report Posted April 5, 2025 No "serial numbers" on these. Just assembly numbers to keep all the parts together. So you can ignore that aspect. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted April 5, 2025 Report Posted April 5, 2025 Could I get a closer shot of the small stamp near the top, above the hole in the nakago (tang)? The sword is a Type 98 Japanese Officer sword. You can read up on them on Ohmura's site: Army Officer's Type 98 - Ohmura Care and Cleaning Tips: Japanese Sword Care Guide - japaneseswordindex.com Quote
