SteveM Posted June 16, 2024 Report Posted June 16, 2024 kogatana 以正應元歳相翁鍛鐡包氏重代孫志津三郎源兼氏作 Made by Shizu Saburō Kaneuji (兼氏), descendant of Kaneuji (包氏), circa Shō-ō 1 (1288) Not entirely sure of the one in red. and not completely sure I've captured the meanings of the ones in blue, but basically this is Shizu Saburō Kaneuji. Edit: It should go without saying, that these signatures are often an homage to a famous smith, and not necessarily written by the person named in the signature. 2 1 Quote

mywei Posted June 17, 2024 Report Posted June 17, 2024 I think the blue is 祖翁 (ancestor type of meaning) And maybe 二十三代 (23rd generation) instead of 重代, but I might be wrong 1 Quote
Nobody Posted June 18, 2024 Report Posted June 18, 2024 1 hour ago, mywei said: I think the blue is 祖翁 (ancestor type of meaning) And maybe 二十三代 (23rd generation) instead of 重代, but I might be wrong I think you are right. I also could not read 二十三代, but another kogatana clearly shows the writing. 1 Quote
