oneshot onekill Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 This is a WWII Sword I just got and I'm still not able to read the Kanji on these things! I'd really appreciate someone translating it for me. The pics are out of focus because I'm still having trouble with my camera but I think you can see it well enough. If not, I'll try to take better pics. The Sword appears to be a Machine-Made Blade but I can't tell. I just know I can't see a Hamon. In one of the pics you can see a very small (Seki?) Stamp above and to the left. There is also painted Kanji. I'm sorry I'm such a knuckle-head! Thanks! John Quote
Grey Doffin Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 May also be read Kanemichi but usually Kinmichi. The date is Showa Ju Hachi Nen Ju Ichi Gatsu (Showa 18 year, 11 month: November of 1943) and the painted figures are the number 862. Grey Quote

I guess that's how they knew what parts go with what blade. I can't find numbers on any other parts. Thanks again! John Quote
Bruno Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 Hello John, I have been told that tiny stamps(when they are not SEKI/SHOWA ones) on showato's nakago might be stamps of the smith's province. You could try to find out in what province Kinmichi/Kanemichi used to work, then find a table of Japanese'provinces stamps to identify yours. Just a thought maybe not relevant. Regards Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 Hi John, Actually the red lacquered numbers do say 1862. Grey didn't see the 'ichi' because of the flash glare. John Quote
