Not a typo, I work in Acrobat which displays that as PDF page 17, but yes I see now the page it is labeled 14 because the first three pages are not numbered.

I think that the interpretation is not appropriate.

Betsujo (別上) only means “special made”, and it is usually used as a mere catchphrase such as Tokujo (特上), Gokujo (極上), and Tokusen (特選) on factory products.

I see!  Sorry for the distraction.  You had me looking that one up, as I didn't even remember it!  Thanks for the refresher.

Is there a chance this phrase when used on a sword blade might take on a slight variation of meaning?  I ask because I got the interpretation from 2 sources, of which I don't remember, but noted in my original post here:

 

I just did a google search and came up with:

"別上 - Betsu Jou / superior grade / white, odd shape." of the quality/grade of an item on this Asano Stamps site which, I think, is selling sharpening stones.  Also found the same on this site concerning Japanese Natural Stones.

 

I'll go with whatever interpretation you guys say, just exploring it's use on a blade.

Betusjo (別上) is only an advertising phrase to appeal good quality. It does not have any specific meanings.

I have seen the phrase on kitchen knives, hatchets, Japanese dolls, and Stones. I do not know the phrase on a sword. Anyway, we do not know why a maker says their product is Betsujo without hearing their reason.

Thank you, I will correct the wording on stamps document to explain it as such.
