Holt's upcoming auction.

Recommended Posts

A number of  Gunto, Nihonto and shinken lots listed. (Possibly wrong terminology: apologies. I am Iaidoka with little knowledge of such swords beyond 'naming of parts' for gradings!)

This one looks a bit dodgy,  especially the kashirae. No detailed images of the blade, just the mei on the nakago.

especially the kashirae.

His bling outfit when he was out on the town.

They had more than one Koshirae for their swords.

His taking care of business fittings would be much more subdued.

Always wanted same* covered saya.

One for Bruce

Thanks Stephen!  Any idea of the smith's name?  That cursive writing could be Arabic for all my horrible reading skills.

I do have 2 blades on file with the number above the mei and both are Takamasa,

267 Feb 43 Takamasa

467 Apr 43 Takamasa

529 May 43 ????????

It would fit.

There's a hidden gem in that auction - The stage sword used by Katsumoto in The Last Samurai - THE LAST SAMURAI (2003) - Katsumoto's (Ken Watanabe) Katana and SheathKatsumoto's (Ken Watanabe) (the-saleroom.com)

Five thousand quid of a plastic stage sword? Blimey!

Thanks for that nugget of knowledge! I was considering the ill-fitting habaki when I made that observation.
