New custodian of family heirlooms

Good morning, . 

I am the new custodian of my late grandfather's Japanese Swords and Tanegashima. He brought them back from WWII and kept them hid away only showing them to my Father a few times before he passed. My father showed them to me a few years before he passed. I am the first to research the history behind the secret collection. No matter the findings the small collection will be treasured and kept for future generations. 

Attached are photos on one small sword. I did not find any signature on the blade.

To say anything about it, we are going to need to see the tang, both sides. Signed or not, it's still vital.
Try taking a pic or 2 of the bare full blade without any fittings too. So far all we know is that it's a tanto, genuine.
