MarcoUdin Posted September 15, 2022 Report Posted September 15, 2022 I don't think Hawley's book has anything to offer than you haven't already posted. I can check when I get home though. Ray Singer has a very nice one for sale and a very informative description on his website https://swordsofjapan.com/product/akihisa-katana/ Quote
Swords Posted September 15, 2022 Author Report Posted September 15, 2022 Did you read what I said ? is special honor seat higher than 1st seat ! Quote
Swords Posted September 15, 2022 Author Report Posted September 15, 2022 I would be interested but better asap Quote
MarcoUdin Posted September 15, 2022 Report Posted September 15, 2022 http://www.jp-sword.com/files/seki/gendaito.html It's the first paragraph, Special>1>2>3>4>5 But I personally wouldn't use this to decide on buying a sword, you need to evaluate the blade and it's condition. Quote
David Flynn Posted September 15, 2022 Report Posted September 15, 2022 Special Honour Seat, is the equivalent of Mukansa. Quote
Swords Posted September 15, 2022 Author Report Posted September 15, 2022 Not sure what that means Quote
SteveM Posted September 15, 2022 Report Posted September 15, 2022 Without seeing the actual sword... It looks like the sword in question is an Akihisa sword. Akihisa studied under Akihide, who was basically an experienced swordsmith. Akihisa entered the sword-making competition and was ranked as 5th seat. Akihide was in the "honorable mention" category, presumably because he was already an accomplished swordsmith, and didn't enter the competition under the same criteria with the younger, less well-known smiths. I would strongly encourage you to not pay too much attention to these rankings. Fifth seat, fourth seat, first seat.... it really makes very little difference. Each sword has to be evaluated on its own merits, and I don't think many collectors care too much about this ranking system. 2 Quote
Swords Posted September 15, 2022 Author Report Posted September 15, 2022 I was surprised only 5th seat when he was listed in John slough as special honor seat But it’s good to know Your so right about being judged by its own merit did you see my noshu taniguchi after polish Check it out! That was only 5th seat Thanks again for everyone s feedback Quote
