b.hennick Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Hello: I managed to translate some of this mei and date but not the full thing. All assistance is appreciated. My first photo clipped "saku" and the last few characters were not all that sharp so I added a second photo. As for the date sixth month lucky day but I do not recognize the rest. Quote
Stephen Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Barry starting with the date I think it starts with Gin ji ji nen? maybe a zodiac date, not likely ji nen as I have been told the same kanji repeated would not be the same. Quote
reinhard Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Barry, Mei reads: Heian (no) Ju Unsenshi SADAHIDE saku Genji gannen roku gatsu kichi jitsu "Unsenshi SADAHIDE, resident of Heian (Kyoto) made this a lucky day in 6th month of first year Genji (1864)" This SADAHIDE worked in Kyoto as well as in some other places during the end of Edo-period. He was originally from Dewa province, later he belonged to the school of Gassan SADAYOSHI in Osaka (Settsu province) and finally settled in Kyoto. reinhard Quote
