Hi all,

Another tsuba I picked up in Japan. Small and simple tanto tsuba, but with nice work and slightly dished with rounding and contouring of the bamboo stem.

I was wondering if anyone can assist with a translation of the mei and kao, gimei or not.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian, good to see you've pulled out of the double whammy of bronchitis and jet lag!

Your tsuba says Masakiyo 政清 with Kao, and I have five Masakiyo on my list, two from Tokyo, one Bushu, one Nagaoka, and one Satsuma. (NIce tsuba!) 8)

Warning: Above reading is incorrect. Please see following post. Apologies!

You're absolutely right, Moriyama san, I am going blind in my old age... :freak:

The rest of the information stands, though!!! I actually looked up Masaharu, but for some reason wrote Masakiyo... erk.... too eager to please and I trip over myself in my hurry. :lipssealed:

Thank you very much Moriyama san and Piers. Using the info, I found him under Masaharu with that Kao. Art name Ikkosha, worked Tokyo around 1855 onwards.

Much appreciated.

Brian
