Bungo Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Have this " ratty looking " very slim O-suriage wakazashi ( bought it over 20 years ago ) newly polished coming home soon. Before polish, I can see no boshi but I was told it does have a boshi, albeit very " thin " and close to the ha. The choji is small and closely " packed ", there's supposedly utsuri, nie etc. ( according to the polisher )which I'll have to see when it comes home. I'll need help in the kantei........ I always feel it's very old ( read early koto ) and is a tip of a long tachi ( now chopped down to wak lenght )....... just one of those " loose end " I want to have closure before i leave......... so keep an eye out on this thread for pics coming soon to your neighborhood. milt Quote
Bungo Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 not a sword guy so I'll described what the pics showed to the best of my ability............. the " wide whitish " band of the hamon can only be seen when the sword stays at a certain angle, in a different angle, it actually appears as " darker band " . There are numerous masame running grains through the " choji " , sometimes the masame grains runs perpendicular to the longi. axis giving a lot of peaks looking thingie. According to an old timer in St. louis, there's utsuri..... Mino with Soshu influence ? I think the hamon is nioi based. p.s. there's a hi ( groove ) on the shinogi ji milt Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Beautiful hamon! type is hard to make out for me due to the pic quality, but mino with soshu influence could well be. KM Quote
Bungo Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 I'll attempt 10A.M. slanting sunlight tomorrow ( weather permitting ) for better pics, the boshi is close to the ha, almost no turn back with " kaen " ( like longish brush strokes, two on one side ., more on the other ) milt Quote
Stephen Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 might want to try scaning with blue background. Quote
Jean Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Maybe Naoe Shizu - wild guess as obviously you are not Darcy, Milt. Don't bother about Nie/Nioi deki you have both in Naoe Shizu Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Yes Milt, some better pics of this one would be nice Utsuri? Hard to photo. Do you see it? Does seem to have a Mino feel on those little pics. John Quote
Bungo Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 lots of flowing masame...... whatever it is, it's not a Bungo. milt Quote
Bungo Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 note.... no broken tip, it dug itself into the fabric when i took pic. Hopefully these pics are " better ".......all natural , no flash. milt Quote
Bungo Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 retook the kissaki pics, " darken " it ....... milt Quote
Jean Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Can't rule out Mino but it has to be studied in hand, not likely Naoe Shizu (I love this school). Have you got an overall picture of the blade showing the hamon? Quote
Bungo Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 played with the pic files a bit...... milt Quote
