Ray Singer
Jirotaro Naokatsu was one of the best smiths of the Shinshinto period. He was a student of of the Sai-jo saku, ¥9M smith Shoji Naotane. While Naokatsu was rated at the Jo-saku level, he is often cited as having a skill which exceeded his master. This sword is an exceptionally long and beautiful example, with a nagasa measuring 73.2cm. Both Naokatsu and Naotane were extremely versatile in working in a range of traditions. And both were exceedingly good at working within the Bizen-den, which this sword represents. The blade is also wide, with a 30mm moto-haba and 21mm saki-haba. The kasane measures 7mm. The sword has an excellent gold-foil habaki and is in shirasaya with a Sato Kanzan sayagaki. The blade also has a kanteisho from Fujishito Matsu (living national treasure). In addition to being ubu, signed and dated (Tenpo 3 nen 8 gatsu), it is also a special order blade (Ota Tokuatsu no ju). Anyone who purchases this sword will be ecstatic. $8,500 (plus shipping and PayPal). Best regards, Ray
