Guido Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 I recently stumbled upon "George's Tsuba Pictures" - seemed like a nice enough website on first glance, until I realized that a couple of photos of Tsuba are "borrowed" from Mike and Cyrus' Tetsugendo website. No credit whatsoever is given to Tetsugendo, and "George" even has the guts to state ©Copyright 1997-2008, all rights reserved. and, talking about himself in the third personHe is a professional level photographer and the items presented here are photos from collections around the world.Well, maybe he's a professional photographer, but he fails to mention that at least some of the photos are not taken by him, and he even doesn't mention Tetsugendo on his links page.If nothing else, at least very bad form IMO. Ford Hallam Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 I ran across that site myself while ago....it does look a bit dodgy to say the least. He also seems to have his finger in quite a lot of different pies. I found this photo on his site too....a much younger Mr Haynes ... I think his halo is slipping and those weird emanations from behind his head are a bit alarming Quote
Guido Posted October 1, 2008 Author Report Posted October 1, 2008 I found this photo on his site too....a much younger Mr Haynes ... I always thought Robert had his trademark moustache from early childhood on .I think his halo is slipping and those weird emanations from behind his head are a bit alarming. That's what being deeply involved in Japanese sword fittings can do to you, too! Quote
Brian Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 George is Richard KG (rkg here on the forum) (Edit to add: no it is not. Completely my mistake - Brian) He specialises in Nihonto photography and posts here. I have however confirmed that Tetsugendo is unaware of the pics there, so I hope George can clarify for us. Guido Posted October 1, 2008 Author Report Posted October 1, 2008 rkg's website is here, and looks indeed very professional. Unless we're dealing with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide, I think you got the wrong "George". Quote
Brian Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Wow...I had always thought that the Arco-iris website was by RKG, but I think I may have been way off track. Good grief Thanks for the clarification. In that case, I have no idea who "George' is and would definitely like to know more about this issue. Quote
rkg Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Hey Guys/Brian, WHAT!!!?? I have nothing to do with the "George's Tsuba Pictures" website. And actually, theft of images/intellectual property is one of my hot buttons, and and I certainly in any case would not use somebody else's images w/o the image owner's permission. As Mr. Schiller pointed out, my website is: http://www.rkgphotos.com Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. (you can use PM or email at rkg@rkgphotos.com). Best, rkg (Richard "I don't steal people's images" George) Quote
Brian Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Thanks for the clarification Richard, even if it was just me jumping to confusions somehow Glad to hear it, and I am still trying to work out where I got that wierd idea. Sorry for the mistake. So...as per the original question. Who is George?? Brian Quote
Ford Hallam Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 ...could he be this friendly chap? Quote
Ted Tenold Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Bwaaaahaaaahaaaaaa!!!!! No, I don't know who George is either, but Ford, this made my morning! Actually, I have the same look on my face when I find a nice tsuba. Apparently, he's a web designer. Perhaps just forwarding his email to Cyrus or Mike bring some clarity to his use of the images. Quote
Curran Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 I think I've been aware of George's website for the better part of a decade. Either Jim Kurrash or one of the early webbers had a link to it. The site did not change for a very very long time. Because of my longstanding interest in Archery, I would visit it from time to time. I do not know if I ever corresponded with him. I believe he is in the UK, but that is distant memory whispering. The site declares itself non-commercial and I've never seen anything commercial on it. I lost my main computer in July and with it went many of my old Nihonto links. George's is one I forgot to refind. It seems he has dramatically updated and expanded since I last recall visiting. In expanding, it looks like he has stepped on a few copyright toes. I believe one of the fuchi (the sword smith one) belongs to an American collector. _________________________________________________________________________________ Thats all I know about that. cccthoth Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Thanks all for the heads up. We have no idea who this is. We sent them an email and will wait for a reply. At least they aren't selling items like http://www.armor8.com/ who I believe were flagged on the board here a little while ago. Cyrus Quote

Guido Posted October 2, 2008 Author Report Posted October 2, 2008 not taking the baitLooks like you got good advise from George:There's an old saying in Tennessee ... I know it's in Texas, probably Tennessee ... that says, fool me once, shame on you. .... Fool me ...... you can't get fooled again! Quote
Bungo Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 actually I took that to heart and have the Deustch version, no kidding !! pardon my limited knowledge of the German language.............. „Es gibt einen alten Saying in Tennessee - ich weiß, daß es in Texas ist, vermutlich in Tennessee - das sagt, täuschen Sie mich einmal, Schandan - Schande auf Ihnen. Täuschen Sie mich - Sie können nicht wieder getäuscht erhalten.„ Milt Quote
