Hi all...I have been collecting bits and pieces most of my life one being this Tanto.

Today I discovered old (Ink text  ? ) Japanese letters...……….

any help would be appreciated ,Thankyou

Hmmm... I stood my PC on its left side, but could some of those (overlapping?) characters be mirror images?

Can't translate. But can mention that mounts like this are usually Meiji period export tourist type mounts, and house poor blades. But it is not always the case, and sometimes old and decent blades can be found in them.
I have a tanto in identical mounts, that is quite nice and much earlier. Signed Nobuyoshi in nijimei.
So hope yours is also a nice blade. Habaki is certainly above average.

Brian, do you have a shot of the Nobuyoshi Mei? 信吉?

Don't want to hijack. I was incorrect, it is Nobuyoshi Saku and I think maybe Shinto or Shinshinto.

Hi ...thanks to the replies to date..OK sounds like I need to get serious images to the forum..and the blade has a Hamon that is lively.
