Ooitame Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 What is the preferred maintainence method(s) for a type 3/late 44 dark gray koshirae? Quote
Shamsy Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 Wear gloves! Nothing else ruins a sword like human hands. Otherwise keep in a dry place out of direct sunlight. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 Is it laquered wood or metal? 1 Quote
Ooitame Posted October 18, 2019 Author Report Posted October 18, 2019 To be honest I am not 100% sure, there is inner shirasaya type wood wood lining, then metal, then something else and textured laquer. Will try to take a pick without the Fuchi on if needed? Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted October 19, 2019 Report Posted October 19, 2019 Gloves, out of direct sunlight, stable conditions in terms of humidity, temperature etc etc. Unfortunately the nature of Japanese koshirae materials and techniques, combined with production during wartime, means these swords can be very fragile if deterioration has already advanced. 1 Quote
Ooitame Posted October 19, 2019 Author Report Posted October 19, 2019 Nothing major, just thinking forward. It is stored in a display case, with uv protection glass, and desecants. Thanks all. 2 Quote
