Nanki Oite ?

Nihonto1973

Recommended Posts

I've had this wakizashi for a While now, but the maker remains a mistery to me. Two kanji clearly say nanki Oite, only the top of the Third kanji is visible. Yet I'm unable to identify the maker. Seems to be late Koto or Shinto, Anyone willing to assist me?

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Joo

The first candidate which comes to mind is 於南紀重國造之 (oite nanki shigekuni tsukuru kore). That is just based on the kanji used ans not a verification of the mwi itself.

Thats the only one i could find .....

I'm learning nihonto about 2 years now , this is my First purchase ( except for the katana i bought via this board )

I dont expect to find a Shigekuni sword on a local second hand website .

Or is it possible ?

If any more pictures required , just ask ....

Not so uncommon. I think you can exclude Koto era.

Thx for your reply Jacques .

May i ask , why i can exclude koto ?

Its overal shape , and/or other details ?

I studied and compared this sword with all the other Shigekuni swords i found in my Token bijutsu books ......

Remember : i'm in the learning proces ......

But to me this is a good opportunity to learn about kantei with the sword in hand ...

I dont want to focus on the suriage mei , its better to elimenate schools and periods by shape , hamon , hada etc.....i belive .
