G'day all. I often see a tsuba that has the Kogai-hitsu-ana and or the Kozuka-hitsu-ana filled in but i have never seen all the cutout sections of a tsuba filled, is there a reason for this ?

I have a couple of examples from from the Touken Komachi website but i'm unsure if it is appropriate to post them here, anyway, the link is below for those who are interested.

Thanks Grey, all seems a bit extreme, if somewhat interesting to a collector. I guess you are right, I cannot think of another reason but i do think it detracts from original intent.

Filling in the hitsu-ana on a sword without accessory impliments seems logical to me, although optional it has a purpose.  Filling in decorative sukashi work is complete aesthetic fancy....it is sometimes ugly, ofttimes interesting, and occasionally very beautiful.
