IJASWORDS Posted November 9, 2017 Report Posted November 9, 2017 I remember reading at some time that after a certain date, there was an edict that blades made for military use needed to be signed with the swordsmith's name. Could an enlightened member confirm this, and if possible the effective date. I ask this as I have GUNTO with very good, but unsigned blades, probably made in the early 1930's. Any help would be appreciated. Neil. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted November 9, 2017 Report Posted November 9, 2017 I'm only aware that in 1933 tang stamps were required to be placed on non-traditionally made swords. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted November 9, 2017 Report Posted November 9, 2017 I'm with John, stamping is the only thing I'm aware of that was mandated by law/edict. Nick Komiya might be a good one to ask, if it's something he's already found in his research. Quote
vajo Posted November 9, 2017 Report Posted November 9, 2017 I did know this edict only for RJT blades. - signed with name - signed with name and date - signed with date and company name Quote
