There are a few generations of Kiyoshige so it's hard to be certain which it is but most likely mid/late muromachi period. You can find plenty of information about the Nio school online, and I'm fairly sure this is a genuine Nio school work. Might be this smith: KIYOSHIGE (清重), Kanshō (寛正, 1460-1466), Suō – “Niō Kiyoshige” (二王清重), Niō school, mostly chū-suguha, also ko-notare or gunome, hotsure and sunagashi along the nioiguchi Has a gunome midare hamon with plenty of activity, sungashi going through the gunome peaks and clouds of nie etc. Itame/mokume jigane. Healthy boshi with hakikake. In decent Japanese polish. No fatal flaws, some small old rust pits, and also a few spots where the grain is starting to open a bit. It's not too bad. Nagasa - 37.2cm sori - 1cm motohaba - 2.7cm motokasane - 0.5cm sakihaba - 2cm sakikasane - 0.4cm Good quality solid silver habaki and Japanese made shirasaya. Price £600 with free Parcelforce 24 hour postage in the UK. Would prefer to sell to the UK but will ship outside at cost. (This will be expensive usually around £60-£80).
