drbvac Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 http://nihontoart.com/shop/kogarasu-maru-tachi-by-gassan-sadakazu/ This is not an ad as the sword is on hold but it is a beauty and although I have seen a couple of blades with this pattern nit very many. It would seem to be a pretty efficient cutting instrument with cutting edges on both sides apart from having pretty impressive hamon. Quote
Jean Posted August 29, 2017 Report Posted August 29, 2017 http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/23235-kantei-quiz-up-for-the-challenge/ Brian, You will find lots of utsushi of this legendary sword mainly shinshinto or gendai. I have seen also a daisho of these swords. 1 Quote
Geraint Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 Dear Brian. A nice write up of a daisho example here, http://www.nihontocraft.com/Hayama_Enshin_Daisho.htm Here's one in kyugunto koshirae. Quote
Dr Fox Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 'Little crow' construction. A copy of a blade made by Amakuni in the early Heian period. Many smiths have forged blades in this style. Quote
Greg F Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 If i remember cottectly there was a nice one of these for sale here sometime in the last couple years but having a mental blanc as to who made it. Im sure the smiths name started with m. Frustrating. Someone else here will probably remember more. Greg Quote
Dr Fox Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 In my old memory bank, I seem to recall that this shape in WW2 was called a 'Generals sword', but could be wrong! Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 Most (if not all) gensuito are in kogorasu maru zukuri. I've never seen one that wasn't, but I don't want to assume that there aren't any exceptions. Quote
Okiiimo Posted August 31, 2017 Report Posted August 31, 2017 Ohmura's site is probably well known for those interested in gendaito but I feel worth pasting in this thread for the write up on marshal swords with kogarasu-maru construction. http://ohmura-study.net/780.html 1 Quote
