Hi guys,

This sword is for sale on my site, if that makes a difference to you.  A potential customer has asked if I have a translation of the saya-gaki and I don't.  If any of you can help I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks,  Grey

Try this

(spoiler for those who want to give it a go.)

濃州直江志津兼久
Nōshū Naoe Shizu Kanehisa

長さ貮尺貮寸壱分大磨上無銘也
Nagasa 2 shaku 2 sun ichi-bun Ōsuriage mumei nari

昭和拾七年壬午五月中浣
Shōwa 17 (mizunoeuma), May (mid-month)

本阿弥光遜
Hon'ami Kōson

edit: I figured out the other kanji I was missing... The complete sayagaki is now included above

I had a really good look at that sword in Chicago, and it is brilliant.

Not exactly what I collect, but it would be a fantastic sword to own; very healthy and loaded with activity.

A great guy to deal with too!

To me Naoe Shizu offers such a great combination of elegance and power. Would love to see what NBTHK has to say about this blade, especially since the [very special] sayagaki puts it down to a specific smith.
