Boy, been seeing a couple of these blades with really bad mei cutting lately. Makes me wonder if they started using rookie mei cutters at some point. 1 Quote
jeep44 Posted January 29, 2024 Report Posted January 29, 2024 I'll add one of mine to this topic. This saya came to me with a type 98 sword in it years ago. I happened to later buy a number of empty saya, and one with a very nice leather field cover happened to fit this sword perfectly, so that's where the sword is presently. The "swagger stick" next to it also has a small blue label on it, if that is of any interest. Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted January 29, 2024 Report Posted January 29, 2024 Good one, Doug! I'll add it to the files. @BANGBANGSAN @Kiipu @SteveM will have to take a look at that new sticker. Pretty faded though. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted April 8, 2024 Report Posted April 8, 2024 Thanks to @John C, this 3-point label is on a late-war Kanenori. It is the most readable one of this style I've seen. According to the seller, 11z1942 at ebay, it says: (top) 票.査検 /Inspection label (middle) 合組業工物刀関 / Seki cutlery Society /Association (bottom) 市関県阜岐 / Gifu Prefecture Seki City (all read R to L) 1 Quote

(Using the old kanji so that they match with what's on the seal. 檢査證票 (meaning is as above, just one kanji left out) 関刄物工業組合 (meaning is as above, just 刀 should be 刄) 岐阜縣関町 (Seki town) 1 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 15, 2024 Report Posted June 15, 2024 Another 3-pointed sticker from Adam, @Banton989. Has a 1942 blade in it, so it's either not a late-war practice, or the blade got a new saya late in the war: Edit: For future stamps searchers, this blade is a Sowada Kanemitsu with large Seki stamp: 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 10, 2024 Report Posted July 10, 2024 Hmmmm ..... Another, large Seki stamped blade, so likely 1942 although it's not dated (and large Seki stamps have been seen as late as 1944). Shocking to see the really poor quality of the fittings, both kabutogane and tsuba. I'm surprised that Seki Cutlery would agree to put their approval stickers on such work. At a Donely Auction HERE. Bruce Pennington Posted September 13, 2024 Report Posted September 13, 2024 Another 3-pointed label found on a 1941 Kanenori blade, posted by Blue Orchid on this Wehrmacht-awards thread. Quote
