stevel48 Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 At least that what I think it reads. I have sen a few examples of the signature searching on google and finding past swords for sale. Probably the fist generation Saneyuki in the early 1600's but it has a sori more in line with the Koto Bungo Takada school and not the Shinto Bungo Sue Takada. The blade just came in tonight so I have to study it more to provide more details. steve SANEYUKI(3) BUN-AN: Worked from EI-KYO 1429 to HO-TOKU 1449. SUGU and NOTARE KO-MIDARE HA. Quote
Geraint Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 Dear Steve. You have probably already looked at these but try this post, about three down for the full blade shot, http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/15304-shinto-wakizashi-in-red-gold-koshirae-nbthk-hozon/ And for your interest this one, http://www.nihontocraft.com/Three_Shinto_Cutters.html I'm not sure I see anything that would make me think this was not the 1600's one. Enjoy! All the best. 1 Quote
SteveM Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 Hello, Your reading is correct Bungo-ju Fujiwara Saneyuki. I agree with Geraint - this looks like an Edo period wakizashi to me. See also the example here http://www.samuraishokai.jp/sword/13322.html Quote
stevel48 Posted November 24, 2016 Author Report Posted November 24, 2016 Steve. the signatures are an exact match...exact. it must be the 2nd saneyuki. I bought this one as an example as an example of a good survivor showing use. a few small chips, and some good wear. I'll keep it that way for a few years and paper ito in a few years Quote
Jim P Posted November 25, 2016 Report Posted November 25, 2016 Hi Steve, I had a look at Bungo saneyuki IMHO, when you say an exact match for the 2nd saneyuki. the first has some differences the two generations of Saneyuki were active from 1615 - 1672 and if you look at the Nakago of the blade dated 1661 its seems that it would more likely be the second gen ? by the date but Steve.s link looks more like your Nakago its dated 1661 it may be the pic but the Nakago seems a tad different for the first ? they must have worked at the same time Quote
stevel48 Posted November 25, 2016 Author Report Posted November 25, 2016 thanks for the research Jim. Shinsa will confirm it some day. it could go either way but the Kanji for wara is what seems to different between the 2 generations Quote
Jim P Posted November 25, 2016 Report Posted November 25, 2016 Hi Steve, Let us know if you do get it to Shinsa. I would bet on second Quote
Stefan Posted November 27, 2016 Report Posted November 27, 2016 The strange sori is O.K for shinto Takada. I did own an Tadayuki wakizashi with the same features. Quote
