grapppa Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 This is an inscription on both sides of shira saya. Thank you for any assistance. First pic, left, seems to be a date inscription. I see "month", "two" and "ten" symbols. Quote
SteveM Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 Left picture: 桜井町 Sakurai cho (location name) Not overly confident in Sakura 角井 二十五才 Kadoi 25 yrs (Kadoi is a surname. Various possible pronunciations, Tsunoi, Kakui) Right picture 部訓練可 Bukunren (ka?) Club practice/training. The last character, if 可 (ka), means that this item may be used by the club/group for training. Quote
grapppa Posted November 19, 2016 Author Report Posted November 19, 2016 Thank you very much Steve M. The sword is unsigned and I thought the shira saya would have details of its maker...but doesnt seem to be the case. Quote
FredrikB Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Hi, My father has a katana who my grandpa left behind after his death. It is said to be made in 1922 bu we have very little info about it. I could fix fotos of the sword but has an image of the text on the sword. Would be much appreciated if someone could help us translate it. Link to image: https://s16.postimg.org/7d7fjnuth/IMG_5199.jpg Thank you. /Fredrik Quote
