Ed Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 It says the snakes are Showa period, Is that correct ? Quote
flo06 Posted September 16, 2016 Author Report Posted September 16, 2016 Yes, it seems the Hako-gaki mentions the Showa period. Quote
christianmalterre Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 unquestionable the best workmanship here in this group Ed! Yepp- Showa in mine eyes, too! These had ben a nice and very suiting addition to the Van Hams Naotane sword in last auction! very nice and rare theme definitely! (as a pair of menuki per se !)- even if Showa... congratulations Florian! ( me here, i would keep them if collecting menuki !) Christian Quote
flo06 Posted September 16, 2016 Author Report Posted September 16, 2016 Thank you Christian for your reply ! Exactly, the workmanship of these Menuki is really nice and the snake theme is very rare. It's for these reasons I bought it in Japan early this year. An interesting addition for all serious Menuki collectors, I think. Quote
christianmalterre Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Dear Florian yes! well done! they do seem me close in workmanship and quality hands ( of execution) to mine Tabako-Ire-Knob - "Dragon with Ken" in clouds... maybe same school here...? (i did already post some pics here on board...do but not remember me where i did post these pictures...so do just browse if you like and do have the passion to find them...) those "sneaky snakes" are great, very vivid and equally charming in their´s execution!.... ! i do really like them!!!! do send me a PM if you actually do not see/remind the mine Ken grapping dragon... Frank B Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 I received my Hebi menuki today and am incredibly pleased with the transaction. Mr. Sala was a pleasure to work with, I would not hesitate to do business with him again. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 I enter this discussion late, but I think the "Showa" ref is when Sato-sensei wrong the hako-gaki. Showa 39, which is 1969, right. Peter Quote
Frank B Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 Hello Peter, are you implying these are older than Showa? Quote
