360 Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Greetings folks! Been a lurker for some time, this is my very first post so please bear with me. My girlfriend bought me a gorgeous Koto-era Wakizashi as a gift -- it is absolutely stunning. Comes with NBTKH papers, Hozon by my guess. The information she received from the seller along with the piece is that is Koto-era (later period, around 1570), Mino School (Sue-Seki). Past this, I cannot discern any further info. I've attached some pictures of both the piece and the paperwork, could someone please assist with the translations? Cheers 2 Quote

seattle1 Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Hello: Jean has given you the reference to NBTHK papers. Yours is Hozon level, and it was issued Heisei 19, August 21 (2007) and beyond that specific to the blade it says Late Seki and the length is 1.22 shaku. A shaku is 11.9303" or 30.3030 cm. It appears to be a typical blade of the period and a nice rig all things taken together. Arnold F. 2 Quote

Curran Posted January 21, 2016 Report Posted January 21, 2016 Amit, Consider joining or visiting the NYC Metro Japanese Sword Club. On the right day, a member can teach you much about Mino Seki while looking at your blade. I don't know who is currently running the club. I am no longer in NYC. Usually the club meets once per month in a building at Times Square. Bring your Wak, but be sure to bring the papers and have it bagged if going on the subway. The police do consider it a live weapon. Ps. Cool girlfriend. I love my wife very much, but she has never so much as bought me a pair of menuki. 1 Quote

I thought the only group with these interests in town was the Japanese Swordsmanship Society (http://ny-jss.org/) started by the late John Prough Sensei, but the group deals mostly with specific art forms like Budo, Iaido etc. Will definitely make contact with the NY Token Kai. I'd be a bit wary about carrying around the Wak, so I'm looking into a protective travel case.. God knows I can do without drawing any police attention. https://www.facebook.com/nytokenkai?fref=nf Thank you Stephen Quote
