It has to be 義治 although it looks more like 汚 That would be odd, so, Yoshisuke seems likely.

Man, if i can "simplify" writing THAT much i'd write Chinese/Japanese a lot faster. I mean, "Simplified Chinese" was supposed to be our way of making "Traditional Chinese" ~simpler~ by having less strokes. But using Traditional to Simplified converter on 都, 源, and 作 gives you, well...都, 源, and 作. You can only use it on 東, which transforms it into 东.

In Chinese, we have a saying, "slurring your writing", like slurring your speech, but the graphical equivalence. It's considered bad practice because it puts a strain on your reader. But people like doctors are exempt simply because we ~expect~ them to have horrible handwriting anyway. I guess dido for Shinto smiths too some of whom we know are ~supposed~ to have a "cursive" style . Speaking of cursive, i feel like cursing; please accept that this is my first attempt ever to actually give 2 cents about a signature let alone a translation

I think Stephen's judgment that Cabowen was correct should be esteemed (and John's not, unfortunately) on the basis that it's HIS THREAD. Thus "Toto ju Minamoto Yoshiharu saku" as affirmed by Stephen should be the correct answer IMHO - Caleb
