John,

The reason for the nagasa is important. At about 69cm, this is out of the standard dictated blade lengths for arsenal blades. Therefore it would indicate it was a private purchase or special order blade. Therefore probably not a Showato.

Btw, your bidder who was asking you a question on the auction was asking if you will show a lower value for customs purposes on the invoice, not asking for a shipping discount. Since that is illegal in most countries, I would not be posting that answer in public.

I have seen many showa-to complete with wa stamp that are over 69cm in nagasa. Not a reliable indicator.

It will be difficult to sell without showing a clear photo of the nakago.

So was it only the RJT program that specified the max and min nagasa? I have not seen a lot of Showato over about 68cm...but obviously they are out there.

Yes, and even then, it isn't unheard of to see star stamped RJT blades slightly longer than the max spec.

There was no spec for showa-to. One seens the showa stamped blades in iai koshirae longer than 69cm on occasion and I have seen them in gunto koshirae as well.
