Rich T Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Hi all, does anyone know of a samurai family from the mid 1700's from I suspect Bitchu province by the name of Hiramatsu. This is taken from the Haynes Indexes and they are referred to as the Bitchu Hiramatsu family. Cheers Richard Quote
Pete Klein Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Yes, actually I remember them quite well. Not really 'bad' neighbors but they did let the children run around naked all the time and they had a bit of an odor to them. They finally moved and the koku appropriation increased. Quote
Brian Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Pete, That was nasty. Funny....but nasty Rich, feel free to ban him from your Tosogu forum for that :D Brian Quote

Rich T Posted August 11, 2007 Author Report Posted August 11, 2007 This is greatly appreciated, unlike that other dribble I received. I will go and see what I can find out. Best Richard Quote
Justin Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 Hi Tricky-san, The only Hiramatsu I could find was a westerner (Prussian born Edward Schnell) who served the Aizu domain as a military instructor and procurer of weapons. He was granted the Japanese name Hiramatsu Buhei (平松武兵衛), which inverted the characters of the daimyo's name Matsudaira (松平). Hiramatsu (Schnell) was given the right to wear swords, as well as a residence in the castle town of Wakamatsu, a Japanese wife, and retainers. This was at the time of the Meiji restoration though, so it's probably not your guy. There is also a Hiramatsu in Hawley's mon book (Butterfly mon). It doesn't say anything about the family except that they were Kuge (a royal family). I thought 'The Samurai' sourcebook by Stephen Turnbull would have a listing, but no luck. Regards Justin Quote
Rich T Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Posted August 12, 2007 Thanks bud. The Kyo Goto artist I am researching died in the 1740's so yes, your man is a lot later than that. But an interesting story though. I wonder if he had photo's taken being that late ?. Thanks for making the effort though. it is greatly appreciated. Cheers mate Richard Quote
