Jim Rogers Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 Weird damage to this Wak. How do you get a hole in the blade? Hagire? LOL Quote
b.hennick Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 A chip in the edge is called a hakobori. The area looks to be rusty perhaps a drop of blood or something else ate a hole in the edge. Ana is the general term for a hole as in mekugiana. Quote

The seller said first thing there was a hole in the blade. It's just such a perfectly round hole through the hamon. The drop of blood makes sense. Quote

cabowen Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 It most likely wasn't caused by blood. It looks like an inclusion that opened, either during heat treatment or polishing. slag inclusions, or other small particles can be trapped during forging. Sometimes when they are brought to heat, if they are very near the surface, they can pop open. Or polish open... Quote
Jim Rogers Posted September 6, 2014 Author Report Posted September 6, 2014 Still not a good investment. No cure I can think of. Still, it's at $ .99 Quote
cabowen Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 Easy to fix this one for an experienced togi-shi. Quote
Jim Rogers Posted September 7, 2014 Author Report Posted September 7, 2014 Thanks Chris. I'll keep it on my watch list and see what happens. Quote
