Ian Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 Hello I know I have seen this somewhere recently and I'm not sure f was here or published My brain is mush today Quote
Gabriel L Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 Don't know, but snowflakes are one of my favorite themes, so thanks for posting it. Quote
Brian Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 I know I have seen it before, and wanted it. The ground work attracted me. Either this one, or a very similar one. Was here on the forum, or an online auction somewhere? Brian Quote
Ian Posted June 27, 2014 Author Report Posted June 27, 2014 Oh no, it's not catching I thought it was just me on a warm Friday I don't normally buy tsubas this late, but there is something appealing about it to me. Quote
Alan Morton Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Hi Ian, is this tsuba for sale? I looked on your very nice site and could not see it . regards Alan. Quote
DirkO Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Just from the top of my head, but didn't Goto Ichijo do this kind of design? eg. http://sanmei.com/Pictures/tuba/Tuba1889.jpg Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Here is a pic with similar motifs by Goto Ichijo.I have some doubt about your tsuba, when I look at more than 20 examples and the signature in my database. The missing seppa-dai is typical for Tsuba of the Meiji-Era,made for export:Gimei.Ludolf Quote
Ian Posted June 30, 2014 Author Report Posted June 30, 2014 I don't normally buy tsubas this late, but there is something appealing about it to me. I know it's late, but I appreciate your comments :D I have seen it recently somewhere , I thought it was here maybe in a book or magazine. I'm just being lazy not to look through them all :? I found this one, but not the two metals http://www.mfa.org/collections/object/t ... akes-12167 All the best Quote
Curran Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 First impression is as Ludolph said: 'Gimei' The snowflake designs being common to the school, and have seen quite a number of mumei pieces. Mike Y. also had an authentic signed shakudo one, no? Here is one in Japan: http://www.e-sword.jp/sale/2010/1010_6010syousai.htm Maybe because of the number of unsigned ones, the snowflake ones seem to often sport gimei signatures. Possibly the signature was added later to make it more marketable. Ichijo ippa without the signature, but turned into Gimei. Quote
Gabriel L Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 As long as we're posting Goto Ichijo examples, Ginza Choshuya had this one (#19). On a sidenote, I particularly love this Kano Natsuo example. Quote
