Marius Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Nice, but not unique enough to come up with an attribution. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Asanoha pattern, hemp leaf, rendered in neat nunome-zogan. The copper rim most probably originally gilt. The use of nunome-zogan to create a patterned ground like this suggests, to me, work from Kyoto around the end of the Edo period. In fact the pattern is frequently found on items made by the Komai company founded in Kyoto in 1865 by Komai Otojiro. An image search of Komai wares will show the similarities with this tsuba quite clearly. Quote

Justin Grant Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 He later went on to found the KFC Empire. Brian Funny Brian. I knew Harlan Sanders when I was a kid, my mom was one of his top executives before he sold KFC. Bit of trivia on his name - Colonel Sanders. The Colonel attribute may suggest a military association, but it is not. It is a special, and highest award bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky. It was a military position of leadership awarded by the Governor before Kentucky was a state, but now, just an esteemed award, used by a special group of people. I too am proud to be a Kentucky Colonel, now if I could just manage to develop another 37 Recipe for tasty chicken..... Quote
Justin Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Nice little tsuba. I wonder if perhaps this is the work of the Sendai school? I have seen a similar design on a fuchi kashira by Sendai Kiyosada. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Difference being the Sendai work isn't nunome-zogan. It's either sen-zogan or keshi-zogan. Quote
