Tiaan Burger Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 I downloaded this photo of a tsuba about two years ago and incorporated the tiger design in a knife I am working on. ( https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+Tia ... 601?sort=1 ) Unfortunately I can't find any information on it, and made the embarrassing mistake of not making any notes when I downloaded the image. Any information about this tsuba, its maker, school and period will be welcome. Thanks Tiaan Quote
Ludolf Richter Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Hi!I have a pic in my database, also with a tiger. There is not much to be found about Mototaka of the Taizan-Family from Mito/Hitachi,not even a date, but I guess it's 19th Century.Ludolf Quote
Toryu2020 Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Most likely a Daisho piece - the other tsuba depicting the tiger cub Tiger moms as we all know being extremely fierce. You might look at Ford Hallams pages for info on the theme and I think he produced one or two passable items in this vein... -t Quote

Markus Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Its not Mototaka but Motozane (元孚) (H 06004.0) alias Genpu. He succeeded as 2nd gen. Oyama (mostly read as Taizan), was born in 1741, and died in 1830. His go which also appears on the tsuba was Sekijoken (赤城軒). Pretty famous and prolifiic man. Quote
Tiaan Burger Posted April 4, 2014 Author Report Posted April 4, 2014 Gentlemen, I thank you all! I did a Google search for "Taizan Motozane" and now have a lot of reading and looking at pictures ahead of me. Tiaan Quote
