南紀 Nanki - is the area (old name for Wakayama)

 

藤原 Fujiwara - clan name

 

Naoshige - smiths name

 

 

(I am having trouble typing the kanji for naoshige!! Sumimasen, Gomenasai!!)

 

 

"Genroku" that Stephen refers to was the period 1688 - 1704

 

I am fairly new at this too, so I would welcome any corrections!!

It may be only a typo, but 於 (oite) means "at".

 

BTW, the written kanji for Naoshige are 直茂.

That is right "at" or interpreted as "(made) at nanki (wakayama)". My mistake, asa wa taksan kohee nomimashita!! :D

 

I looked at the Nao kanji and saw it was different... I was hoping you would clarify for me.... wasn't sure about it... thanks very much.

Nanki is somewhere in Kishu?

Nanki is the old name for Wakayama I think.... Wakayama prefecture, Kansai area.... and I think it is still used for part of Wakayama Prefecture... on the South coastal area...
