CSM101 Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Hi, I just have one question. I found this "symbol" on several horse menuki. Does it have a special meaning or is it just for decoration? Thank you Uwe G. Quote
Pete Klein Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 I have seen this with variations many times associated with horse menuki. They remind me of the Suhama Bishi of Goto Shishi menuki: These are one of the kantei points for which Goto maker did the work as each tended to have their own style of curvature or solid/broken line. My feeling is that this is an accepted stylistic element and not symbolic of something else although I would love to hear if there is such a reference. PS: picture from http://www.tetsugendo.com - Goto Joshin shi shi menuki I once owned. Quote
Pete Klein Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Where the shishi are face to face look directly up and there is a Suhama Bishi carved. Quote
CSM101 Posted July 8, 2013 Author Report Posted July 8, 2013 Seems so, that it is absolutely meaningless and just for decoration. Thank you for your anwsers. Uwe G. Quote
Dr Fox Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Not of any further help! but both shish carry a similar mark, and in approx the same place on the body, and can be seen in your photo. Denis. Quote
