This is important to me to resolve an issue with Japanese Customs.

Can someone please to me the great favor of scanning in the entire Sasano Silver Book page for the Hayashi tsuba

similar to the one discussed in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14486&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=hayashi

Japanese Customs needs to see the time period before they will admit a tsuba to Japan as an antique.

Japanese Customs is getting to be a real pain in the arse.

Please help, if you can. I don't have access to my books.

Sounds like you got the same customs idiot who once held a tsuba sent to me, telling me it needed a license because it was a part from a sword..... :rotfl:

Chris,

Something like that. They want proof the items are antique.

Never mind that one of them is Nambokuchu or earliest Muromachi and looks it....

Its getting to be a ridiculous amount of work, and I'm rather mad about it.

I don't blame you. The question is, why do they care? If you are sending something for a non-commercial purpose (restoration or kantei) and it is to be returned, the point is moot.

But they do care!

Why.... I have no idea.

This is the second time I've had tsuba stopped. NBTHK shinsa is getting to be an impossible thing.

Some people have all the luck....

I would go up the food chain and have someone ask the section chief what the problem is......Usually these problems are caused by newer, overzealous employees who haven't a firm command of the rules. Once, ok, anyone can make a mistake, but twice is once too often....

Hi Curran,

I will scan or photograph that page from Sasano last book. Current I'm not home but when I get back I will email it to you directly.

This began when Japan Post changed hands and they got import duty greedy. As I have said before: use a dealer for these transactions who will carry the item in. It is more expensive and takes longer but you don't run into this problem. Bob Benson at Bushido Japanese Swords offers this service, amongst others.

Hi Curran,

Just emailed a photograph of the page. I hope this is enough information for Japanese customs. Let me know if you need any more information.

Yours truly,

David Stiles
