Kai-Gunto Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Hi, Just added to my collection is this old wakizashi blade in kai gunto mounts. The mounts was made by Gunto Sei Saku Jo , located in Tokyo. Company was owned by Mr. Matsuyama. They made koshirae for army and navy and for police, diplomatic and ceremonial uses. The tsuka has what looks to me a bullet hit and damaged the nakago too. Sad thing that someone has polished the nakago. Nagasa is 21,25 inch. A new tsuka was made and the old one is keept with the records and data when it was restored. Nakago repatinated. Quote
Alex A Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Hi Thomas, that nakago sure tells a story!.Weird really, some freinds who come to my home think having such items in the home is unlucky, i cant say my luck as changed since starting this hobby but i do think about what these items have been through during the years. Cutting tests, war, etc etc...They do say the soul of the samurai is in the blade!, sorry, this would be a better post on halloween. I remember the night i got my first real sword, worst nightmare ever, weird, actually sent that sword back, not for that reason, but maybe it just needed to leave...spooky Alex Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 I think its resting now , since it has been restored I do belive the souls are in the blades and I take care of them and oppesite. 1 year ago I found a shinsakuto made by O. Kanekuni made in 1981 , the same year I started to collect , spooky. More spooky ,I got it for 89 usd. Near free. Same year Kanekuni dies. Quote
David Flynn Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 The souls of the Samurai are only in the blades if you think that way. This from Shintoism, believing there is soul in everything. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 If the souls of the samurai (kon) are in the sword this would mean the person is soulless and if owning more then one sword confused. Better would be to say the sword expresses the spirit of the samurai, or soul if you wish, as does the hude, yumi and on and on. A romantic notion fostered by the misunderstanding of Eastern thought of soul and the Western idea of an unchanging soul that persists beyond death. John Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 I was thinking of the soul of the smith. Quote
