Viper6924 Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Hi! I always love to play detective when it comes to unusual mon. The one I have the hardest time to solve is often ashigaru jingasas. It´s an absolute jungle sometimes. Here we have what I hink is a teppo-ashigaru iron jingasa with a mon that I cant find anywhere. Any clue would be fantastic. Thanks! Jan Quote
Anthony de Vos Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Hello Jan! Nice Jingasa! Skulle kunna vara Åkersberga klanen  Anthony de Vos Quote
Viper6924 Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Beware of the Åkersberg-clan!!! They take Your head clean off  Perhaps this is a groupsign instead of a familie crest. Come across a few of those when I been looking at ashigaru-helmets. Jan Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Will check my books for you Jan when I get back to Japan in a couple of days. Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Good morning Jan, Closest I can find is one called Nakawani Takeno Kakuji (First from left). Yours may be a varient upon that letter based theme... http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Nakawa ... 0QW25oCwCA Cheers Quote
Viper6924 Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Good job, Malcom! It´s def close. But thats just it with jingasas, never a clear match I still think this might be a sign for a specific teppo-unit within a larger group of ashigarus. I have seen 4-5 "mon" during my studies that I can´t place within the familiecrest group. I place all my hope in Piers hands... :D Thanks! Jan Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 You may be right Jan. Got in the front door just now and immediately checked the books. All I could find was a close cousin to Malcolm's with a slightly thicker rim, called 'Maru ni Take no Kaku-Ji' but again the two middle uprights cross over and stick up through the top. Quote
Viper6924 Posted September 19, 2012 Author Report Posted September 19, 2012 Thanks for the effort, Piers! Just the words: "You may be right", warms my cold scandinavian heart /Jan Quote
Lindus Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 Perhaps a chapter from the Genji monogatari ??? Have seen this often and are mistaken for Mon and other. Quote
