I think this is the correct place for this topic, being about gendaito.

This is for fellow WWII gendaito collector nerds... ;)

I notice on a sword on the ebay site of showa22 at the moment there is a sword by Sadaroku of Niigata ken (signed nijimei, 1944/2 with star stamp and tang no "ta 2383").

The point I raise is that the pics show the star stamped on the date side. I have only ever seen the star stamped above the mei...a mistake?

Also, the mounts...these are late war Type 3, but seem to be of a consistent variation as I have seen identical on a Munetoshi of Niigata star stamped sword dated 19/3 "ta 2353".

Anyone seen the star here before, or maybe a "one-off"?

Regards,

Hey Chris,

I'm not surprised...I did say this was a question for nerds haha.

I just wondered if this had been noticed before...I don't think it is an "negative issue".

Best might be to take a browse through Slough's book, see if any appear that side.

Edit to add: Yep..quick look pulls up one:- (Baba) Tsugukiyo, with star stamp above the date. Not common though.
