  1. For me it looks like a Shinshinto Katana with O-Kissaki, looks nice!
  2. Hi, yes looks like early Shinto, maybe Kanei because of the longer Kissaki. Hamon is hard to see on the photos, Hada looks nice. Mino... a lot of smith from Mino moved to different part of the country and established new schools. So hard to say which one. Maybe somebody else with more experience can help. Otherwise i can recommend you some books. bye Oli

  4. you schould also make some photos of the boshi, mabe this helps. Where are some nice books in english for shinshinto: shinshinto-shi and shinto/shinshinto kantei both from Markus Sesko.

  8. i am not a expert, but i guess Osaka Shinshinto ( of course not the Gassan Group). There was a smith: MASAYOSHI (正義), Kaei (嘉永, 1848-1854), Settsu – “Ōsaka-jū Kuroda Masayoshi” (大坂住黒田正義), “Masayoshi” (正義), real name Kuroda Sukeichirō (黒田助一郎), student of Ozaki Masataka (正隆), he also worked in Harima Question is, is this Osaka yakidashi?
  9. For me it looks more like mino-den. Does it have a yakidashi?
  10. There are a lot of smiths with the name Masayoshi in Sesko Book about Japanese sword-smiths. I think it also can be gendai because of the short signature, but then it should be a little bit longer. Nice sword, thanks for the photos.
  11. Not shure, but is this website not from a Japanese person? http://ohmura-study.net/900.html

    Questions about Tanto

technically they could be possible shortened Hira-zukuri Wakizashi or Sunnobi Tanto. Example: https://www.toukenko...&katana_A071023.html if the suriage makes i smaller than 30cm.

  21. Hi Trystan, do you still looking for a Gunsui-To? Regards Oli
  22. Yes good questions, as a beginner i often ask this questions myself, actual state: 1 - What is the "theme" of your collection ? This changed from time to time, but gokaden is a good point, for my on all time epochs. I would like to have a few good swords from koto, shinto, shinshinto, gendai 2 - What is the "aim" of your collection ? my only aim is to learn more and to appreciate my blades 3 - What is the "border" of your collection ? unfortunately money ,and if the blades need a polish or other restaurations 4 - What is your "behaviour" in collecting ? Buying, learning and trying to sell, selling is i think the hardest point, learning the most fun 5 - What is your "purpose" in collecting ? Learning, also from the perspective of a martial artist of old Japanese martial arts (Koryu). 6 - At what stade are you ? starting
